A LAKE FRUSTRATED...PART 3
A long time Geauga Lake fan's view of the current park.

By Coasterdad

Well the 2006 season is over.  It seems that there was better attendance than the previous season from what I observed but I was not totally satisfied with my 2006 experience.  Something happened this season that I think Geauga Lake and Cedar Fair executives need to sit up and listen to.

I think I can say that I am an amusement park enthusiast as most of the folks that read this website and others like it are.  I happen to love Geauga Lake for what it is, not what it has become.  I think it's one thing when the general public is not happy but when enthusiasts of the park are not happy something is horribly wrong.  I did not visit the rides side as much as I did in previous years.  When I did it just didn't feel right.  It doesn't help when nothing new is announced before the end of the season and season passes are even ready to be sold.  I get the feeling that they DON'T REALLY CARE.

I think they made a good move with the addition of Wildwater Kingdom but a big mistake by announcing phase two to only hear that half of the additions were not going to happen. Don't get me wrong, Wildwater Kingdom is a great addition but I don't feel it has the mass appeal that new rides do.  Most of my time at Geauga Lake this year was spent in Wildwater Kingdom.  I went almost every weekend it was open and it was PACKED, much more than last year.

Now I happen to enjoy water parks but I don't feel that the average amusement park guest is going to be that interested.  It's the traditional amusement experience they are looking for and Geauga Lake is hugely lacking in that department. They have a great collection of coasters (although some could use some TLC) but they need something that will entice people to go there.  It has to be evident to Geauga Lake execs by the lack of people on the ride side that something is wrong but every time I went there it just felt like it doesn't matter.  Did Cedar Fair buy Geauga Lake to keep competition down at Cedar Point?  I sure hope not but every year I get that feeling more and more.

Bill, Dick, or whoever is reading this it sure would be nice to get some sign that someone still cares about my park.
